Dark Art and Amanda Zirzow’s Development of X-Ray Expressionism

The Dark Art exhibitions at the Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center provided an important setting for Amanda Zirzow to explore the anatomical and symbolic dimensions of her painting.

Presented by the Syzygy Collaborative Art Project, the series brought together artists working with darkness, transformation, and the unfamiliar. Amanda’s contributions helped develop the approach she calls X-Ray Expressionism.

These paintings bring skeletal structures into compositions shaped by expressive color and layered symbolism. They invite viewers to consider both the physical form of a subject and the emotions an image can suggest.

For Zirzow Gallery, this body of work demonstrates Amanda’s willingness to experiment with challenging subjects and new visual approaches. The exhibition setting gave those explorations a place within a broader conversation among artists.
