Amanda Zirzow’s Burrowing Owls Become Public Art in Cape Coral

Amanda Zirzow’s Burrowing Owls in the Starry Night became part of Cape Coral’s utility box art initiative in April 2022. She was one of fifteen artists selected to contribute imagery to the downtown streetscape.

The installation was unveiled at 1023 SE 47th Terrace, in front of Dixie Roadhouse. Having previously lived in downtown Cape Coral, Amanda had a personal connection to the opportunity to share her work in this public setting.

The painting reflects a period when she was raising her two children as a single mother. Its owls and luminous night sky carry themes of resilience, hope, and the pursuit of a dream.

The original painting was exhibited and sold during Amanda’s first solo show at Arts for ACT Gallery. Its selection for the utility box project gave the imagery another life, bringing it into the daily experience of residents and visitors.
